People and scientists have been studying the human anatomy for so many years that one would think that they'd have it all figured out by now. Luckily for the human spirit, this is far from true, but there is one part of the body that they're only starting to really figure out how things work: the brain.
And yet, as much as scientists and doctors may know about the body and it's different parts, regular people often know next to nothing.
Enter exploration... we do lots of dissections with students, campers and visitors at the museum. Over the years I've led people in dissecting eyes, hearts, owl pellets, worms, frogs, rats... but with the impending opening of our exhibit on the brain, we've been starting to prototype workshops that feature a brain dissection as an activity. So far, so good. It's neat to look at the different structures of the brain while holding it directly in your hands... despite spending years with a variety of brains in jars at one of the demonstration carts.
Mmmm. Brains.
